"The result has been described as a 'futuristic box perched atop two massive towers.' The architects refer to it as being 'supremely minimalist ... floating in the space high above Pasadena.' The hillside home has floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms and light-filled living spaces."
"Rochelle, who teaches in a Montessori school, remembers telling the architects that she wanted 'lots of air, lots of white.' And, she said, 'I wanted it extremely modern.' The home has walls of glass and views of the San Gabriel Mountains and Pasadena from every room."
Bryce Jamie and his wife Rochelle commissioned architects Frank Escher and Ravi GuneWardena to design their Pasadena home in 1996. Rochelle envisioned a modern space with abundant light and white interiors, steering the design away from Bryce's initial rustic cabin preference. The resulting three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence spans approximately 2,120 square feet on a 12,020-square-foot lot. Described as a futuristic box elevated on two massive towers, the supremely minimalist structure features walls of glass, marble bathrooms, and light-filled spaces with views of the San Gabriel Mountains from every room. Drought-tolerant landscaping complements the natural hillside topography. The home includes dual-paned tinted windows, air conditioning, and two water heaters.
