FBI report: Despite overall crime drop, anti-LGBTQ+ remain alarmingly high
Briefly

The FBI's 2024 report indicates high levels of anti-LGBTQ+ hate crimes, reporting 2,278 incidents motivated by sexual orientation and 527 by gender identity. While there was a 5 percent decrease in sexual orientation crimes and a 3 percent decrease in gender identity crimes from 2023, these figures are considered unacceptably high by activists. Nationwide, violent crimes have dropped by 4.5 percent. Out of 11,679 reported hate crime incidents, 17.2 percent were based on sexual orientation, highlighting ongoing biases and political rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2024, law enforcement agencies reported 2,278 single-bias hate crimes based on sexual orientation and 527 based on gender identity, despite a decrease in overall violent crime.
Despite a 5 percent drop in sexual orientation-motivated crimes and a 3 percent drop based on gender identity from previous years, activists say the numbers remain alarmingly high.
