LGBTQ+ immigrants allege sexual assault and forced labour in ICE facility
"treated worse than an animal"
"We don't deserve to be treated like this."
LGBTQ+ detainees at the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Basile, Louisiana report sexual harassment, assault, degrading treatment, and threats by staff, including assistant warden Manuel Reyes. Several detainees say they were forced to perform oral sex and compelled into an unsanctioned work program that used industrial-strength cleaning chemicals without adequate protective gear. Detainees describe chemical burns, persistent migraines, chest pain, injuries, confiscation of intimate items, forced nudity, mockery, and beatings. Complainants to DHS and ICE say they faced retaliation from staff, including denial of medical care and punitive treatment for raising concerns.
