NASCAR indefinitely suspends driver who mocked IndyCar racer's 'gay voice'
"As soon as I start doing a David Malukas gay voice, I hit a gold (card, in the pack). So let's keep it going - Daniel Dye"
"I didn't think enough before I spoke, and I in no way meant any harm. I know that intention does not erase impact, and I need to do better."
"The sanctioning body announced the suspension on Tuesday, saying Dye violated a rule prohibiting members from making public statements that criticize, ridicule, or otherwise disparage someone based on characteristics, including sexual orientation."
NASCAR issued an indefinite suspension of driver Daniel Dye after he made homophobic comments mocking IndyCar driver David Malukas during a trading-card livestream on the Whatnot platform. Dye imitated Malukas's voice while calling it a "gay voice" and continued the mockery during the stream. The sanctioning body determined Dye violated rules prohibiting public statements that criticize or disparage individuals based on sexual orientation. Kaulig Racing suspended Dye from the team before NASCAR's formal action. Dye subsequently issued a public apology, acknowledging his poor word choice and stating that intention does not erase impact.
