Protect trans-inclusive spaces, LGBTQ+ orgs tell Starmer
""Without action, we will continue to see inclusive spaces and organisations dragged through the courts and faced with a choice between betraying their values or facing financial ruin," Trans+ Solidarity Alliance policy advisor, Sandra Duffy, said."
""Excluding trans people does not make any woman safer, and encourages regressive gender policing that hurts us all. Together, we are speaking up to tell our representatives in Westminster that they need to act.""
""the norm of trans-inclusion""
""everyone's freedom of association""
Nearly 150 LGBTQ+, feminist, and human rights organisations, led by Trans+ Solidarity Alliance, urged Keir Starmer and MPs to ensure equality law protects the norm of trans-inclusion and everyone's freedom of association. The coalition warned that anti-trans legal actions could close inclusive businesses, waste public funds, and pose severe financial risks for smaller organisations. The call followed a high court decision blocking Sex Matters from suing the City of London Corporation over trans women's access to Hampstead Heath ponds, where 86% of regular swimmers supported keeping the site trans-inclusive. The coalition urged legislative or policy action to prevent further litigation-driven closures.
