Hannah and Jake Graf discussed the implications of a UK Supreme Court ruling that defines women as only biological females, impacting transgender rights. The ruling has prompted the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to issue new guidelines on access to single-sex spaces, which have been criticized as rushed and discriminatory. Hannah expressed her concerns about the practical effects on her and her family, while Jake highlighted that the ruling exacerbates existing transphobia. Both fear this ruling legitimizes hate against the trans community and undermines their rights to live freely.
As a trans person in society, this gives so much validity to people who want to hate trans people.
It feels like two weeks ago we were allowed to use the loo. We were allowed to live our lives.
How are we supposed to operate? How are we supposed to feel? It just feels like a complete discriminatory step, these guidelines.
The EHRC has taken the ruling to the most extreme possible lengths and we hope they wouldn't become law.
