The Commonwealth's Attorney in Spotsylvania County is prioritizing an investigation into the reported attack on Amylah Majors and Jamaria Gaskins. The couple, who are married, experienced a violent incident on July 20 where they were chased and threatened at gunpoint by three individuals while inspecting their vehicle. In a GoFundMe post, Majors detailed the racially charged threats and physical assault they faced during the encounter. The prosecutor indicated that all potential charges, including hate crime charges, will be evaluated after the investigation concludes.
Commonwealth's Attorney Ryan Mehaffey stated, "I am taking the case very seriously and immediately requested a thorough investigation of all of the facts and circumstances when the case first came to my attention, which is underway. All relevant charges, including potential hate crime charges, will be considered upon completion of the investigation. Our office vigorously prosecutes crimes."
Majors described the incident, stating, "We were chased, threatened with firearms, and called racial slurs by three white individuals who acted as if they were part of a white supremacist group - two men and one woman."
In a public GoFundMe post, Majors recalled, "Two of them physically attacked my wife while brandishing a gun and shouting threats. They called us 'n*ggers,' told us we didn't belong there, and one of them even exposed himself while screaming hate and slurs at us."
Majors also noted during the attack, "As we tried to leave, all three of them jumped into vehicles and chased us down the road."
