A judge's dismissal of Justin Baldoni's $400 million defamation suit is a win for Blake Lively, but it's not 'game over'
Briefly

Blake Lively recently won a significant legal victory when a New York judge dismissed Justin Baldoni's $400 million defamation lawsuit against her, Ryan Reynolds, and The New York Times. According to legal experts, this dismissal represents a crucial win focused on reputation, particularly because California law favors First Amendment rights. Although most claims were dismissed with prejudice, preventing refiling, Baldoni is permitted to amend his case. The lawsuit arose after Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, with the latter denying all charges and alleging a conspiracy against him.
Even though it was a New York judge, the judge applied California law, and that's important because California is one of the most First Amendment-friendly states in the country.
The fact that the vast majority of the claims were dismissed with prejudice, which means that they can't be refiled, is a huge setback for Baldoni.
Lively's spokesperson stated that the lawsuit dismissal is 'a total victory and a complete vindication' for her.
Baldoni has claimed that Lively and others conspired to destroy his career with false allegations after she raised concerns about on-set conditions during the film's production.
