Chelsea family with legal status files complaint after violent ICE encounter, lawyers say
"My family is broken and will never be the same," the mother said. "I don't know how to explain to my children why ICE treated us this way. I am still in daily pain from my injuries."
"Officers forced Sanan from the car and arrested her "by forcefully twisting her arms back to handcuff her, kicking her, and smashing her against the ground face-first," the release said."
"An officer allegedly threatened to arrest him if he did not show proof of his legal status, "despite his age, obvious distress, and disability," the release said."
""As a mother, the hardest part is seeing how scared and traumatized my children are," Sanan said. "I hope to help prevent this from happening to other innocent families.""
Lawyers for Civil Rights filed a civil rights complaint against Immigration and Customs Enforcement on behalf of Hilda Ramirez Sanan, a 50-year-old green card holder, and her two children following a September incident near the Chelsea courthouse. Several unmarked vehicles surrounded Sanan's car and at least eight masked agents smashed the driver's-side window, covering her in glass. Officers allegedly forced her from the car, twisted her arms to handcuff her, kicked her, and smashed her face-first to the ground. Agents also pulled a 13-year-old child on the autism spectrum from the vehicle, questioned him, and allegedly threatened to arrest him despite obvious distress and disability. Videos show agents holding a child against a car hood while Sanan pleaded for care. ICE attempted to place Sanan into a vehicle but released her after Chelsea police became involved.
