'Married and manipulating' spy cop faces inquiry

"Mark Jenner - agent HN15 - was known as Mark Cassidy and had a five-year relationship with activist "Alison", not her real name, while he was married with children. He and Alison lived together, went on holidays and attended family gatherings as a couple. The inquiry promised to get to the truth about the tactics of undercover policing and the Met's Special Demonstration Squad. It has previously been reported at least 50 women were duped into intimate relationships with undercover officers over decades."

"Alison recently gave evidence at the inquiry about her time with Mark "Cassidy" Jenner, as did Mr Jenner's ex-wife. His intimate relationship with Alison did not appear to feature in his official recording of his life undercover to his bosses at Scotland Yard, the inquiry heard. "There are so many layers of lies," Alison said. "I think his direct managers knew and covered it up. Or they didn't know and they are entirely incompetent.""

"Alison first met Mark Jenner at the Colin Roach Centre in Hackney in 1995, named after a young black man who died at Stoke Newington Police Station. She described the centre as a "peaceful organisation" which supported families in dispute with the Met Police while campaigning with local trade unions and anti-fascist groups. Mr Cassidy had told Alison he was a joiner from Birkenhead and described himself as an "Anarcho-syndicalist"."

Mark Jenner, operating as agent HN15 under the name Mark Cassidy, maintained a five-year intimate relationship with activist Alison while married with children. He lived with Alison, took holidays with her and attended family gatherings as her partner. His intimate relationship did not appear in his official undercover records to Scotland Yard. Alison and Mr Jenner's ex-wife both gave evidence to the Undercover Policing Inquiry. At least 50 women have previously been reported to have been duped into intimate relationships by undercover officers. Alison first met Mr Jenner at the Colin Roach Centre in Hackney in 1995, where he became a key figure and often ferried activists in his van.
