Aisha Masaka has broken barriers as the first Tanzanian woman to play in England's Women's Super League for Brighton, following a trailblazing career that began with her playing street football. Overcoming parental resistance typical in Africa regarding female athletes, Masaka pursued her passion and went on to play for teams like Yanga Princess and compete in major tournaments, including the Champions League in Sweden. Beyond sports, she champions social causes through the AKM Foundation, addressing poverty and promoting gender equality, demonstrating her commitment to impact her community positively.
It was a big move for a teenager but one Masaka had to take. It was my dream to play in Europe, so when that opportunity came I didn't hesitate to take it.
My parents found it difficult to allow their girls to play football. They wanted me to go to school and not be involved in any sport at all.
