Cycling rates in the City of London have surged by over 50% in two years, with a record 139,000 daily cyclists as of October 2024. This growth is the largest since records began in 1999. The increase in cycling has led to a reduction in motor traffic by 34%, and the City has surpassed several traffic reduction targets six years ahead of schedule. Air quality is also improving, with only two locations exceeding toxic nitrogen dioxide levels last year, down from fifteen in 2019.

According to Will Norman, cycling now accounts for 56% of all traffic during peak hours, showcasing significant change in commuting habits.
Improving air quality has been a goal; toxic nitrogen dioxide levels exceeding objectives have dramatically dropped from 15 locations to just two.
