Fire rips through north London flat block as three children rushed to hospital

"A blaze ripped through the entire top floor of a block of flats in north London on Monday morning. Firefighters are working to tackle the aggressive fire after around 10 fire engines and 70 fire fighters attended the scene in Maybury Close in Enfield in the early hours of Monday morning. Three children were treated by paramedics and taken to hospital with smoke inhalation."

"A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service told Metro: We were called at 5.22am this morning to reports of a fire in Maybury Close, Enfield. We sent ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene. We treated three patients and took them to hospital. We remain at the scene alongside colleagues from London Fire Brigade."

"In a statement, the LFB said: Two of the Brigade's 32-metre turntable ladders are being used as water towers to help extinguish the fire from height. The Brigade's 999 Control officers received their first call about the fire at 0519. They mobilised crews from Enfield, Edmonton, Chingford, Tottenham, Woodford, Southgate fire stations. Two fire engines from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance. The Brigade's drone team are also in attendance to provide the Incident Commander with an aerial view of the fire."

Fire alarms activated at 5.19am and crews from seven London Fire Brigade stations plus two engines from Hertfordshire attended. Around ten fire engines and 70 firefighters tackled the aggressive blaze; the Brigade reported the fire under control by 8.06am, though the roof and second floor remained alight at 9.20am. Three children were treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital. Two 32-metre turntable ladders were used as water towers and a drone team provided an aerial view. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
