Ethel Caterham, born in 1909, has been recognized as the world's oldest living person, emphasizing the importance of enjoying life to promote longevity. Living in a care home in Lightwater, Surrey, she credits her long life to a positive attitude, stating, 'I've taken everything in my stride.' Caterham is the first British individual to hold this title since 1987 when Anna Williams was the previous record holder. Raised as one of eight children, she worked as an au pair and married in 1933, raising two daughters and recalling a life filled with both adventure and resilience.
Caterham, who lives in a care home in Lightwater, Surrey, puts her longevity down to her attitude to life. 'I've taken everything in my stride, the highs and lows,' she said, adding she has a maxim of never arguing with anyone. She added: 'I listen and I do what I like.'
