The Play Pavilion, designed by Peter Cook in collaboration with the LEGO Group, opens in Kensington Gardens, London, on World Play Day, June 11. This unique structure aims to spark creativity and play among visitors of all ages by incorporating interactive elements like slides and tunnels, encouraging engagement with color and form. The Pavilion will feature events throughout the summer, aligning with Serpentine's goal of fostering inclusive spaces for younger audiences. This installation builds on previous community-focused initiatives by the institution, further merging architecture, art, and public interaction.
Play transcends survival, achievement, and common sense. It encourages, or at least permits us, to explore and idly delight in a territory between the wayward and speculative towards unashamed amusement.
The Pavilion invites visitors of all ages to explore play as a spatial and creative experience, incorporating LEGO bricks into the design.
