"Knats started as DIY bedroom experiments, with Woodward self-taught on a Tesco guitar and Elechi learning drums at church, evolving into a project that has taken them to the BBC Proms."
"The sound of Knats is sprawling and eclectic, featuring gritty percussion and bright, groove-led horns, reflecting their diverse influences from metal, grunge, reggae, and house."
"They discovered trumpeter Ferg Kilsby on YouTube, tracked him down, and now all three are studying at Trinity College's conservatoire in London, yet they insist on playing geordie jazz."
Knats originated from a friendship between David-Ike Elechi and Stan Woodward, who bonded over a game in school. After leaving a music club due to harsh criticism, they began creating music independently. Their journey led them through various genres, ultimately finding their niche in jazz influenced by hip-hop and drum'n'bass. The band has expanded to include additional musicians and has performed at notable events like the BBC Proms, while maintaining their unique Geordie jazz identity.
