An unauthorized fireworks display on Hammersmith Bridge nearly led to widespread damage when a flare ignited a hedge on the south side of the river. The London Fire Brigade received over 80 emergency calls at around 9.45pm. An assessment by firefighters confirmed a hedge was fully ablaze, with flames reaching 3m. Fortunately, no buildings were damaged, as firefighters contained the fire by around 10:30. It is believed that football fans were responsible for the dangerous display of fireworks. Residents expressed concern over the risk posed to people and properties.
More than 80 emergency calls were received by the London Fire Brigade at around 9.45pm on Sunday when a flare set fire to a hedge on the south side of the river.
School staff and firefighters were quickly on the scene and were able to contain the damage to the hedge, preventing it from spreading towards nearby buildings.
Fire brigade sources said it was extremely fortunate that no buildings became involved in this incident, despite flames reaching 3m in height.
A spokesperson for Hammersmith Bridge SOS described the incident as terrifying and labeled it orchestrated behavior, pointing out the dangers posed by the flares and fireworks.
