The Rugby Football Union (RFU) is considering allowing Chelsea Football Club to share Twickenham Stadium amid the latter's plans to redevelop Stamford Bridge. RFU CEO Bill Sweeney emphasized that while such an arrangement could provide financial relief, it hinges on gaining local council approval, considering the impact on residents. Currently restricted in hosting non-rugby events, changing the rules would unlock further financial opportunities for the RFU. Chelsea previously explored Twickenham as a temporary ground during their redevelopment discussions in 2017.
It would allow it to happen, there have been conversations previously about possible Premiership clubs coming here. Richmond council is more concerned about local impact.
The RFU would need to change the existing rules regarding the number of non-rugby events permitted at Twickenham, currently limited to three a year.
