Tube fares to rise by 5.8% from 1 March
"As an emergency cost-of-living measure, the mayor has decided to use City Hall budgets to help Londoners by freezing bus and tram fares until 5 July 2026. Sir Sadiq said he hoped the freeze in bus and tram fares would particularly benefit those on the lowest incomes, adding that it was the seventh time they had been frozen."
"The fare rise - equivalent to one percentage point above the RPI rate of inflation - was a condition of the 2.2bn capital funding deal the transport organisation agreed with central government in the spending review in June. Revenue raised from fares was reinvested into improving transport services across London."
"The fare rises were a bittersweet pill for Londoners as they continued to endure a cost-of-living crisis and some of the most expensive public transport fares in Europe. There are some crumbs of comfort, such as the temporary respite for bus and tram users."
Transport for London announced a 5.8% fare increase for Underground, Overground, DLR, and Elizabeth line services effective March 1. Mayor Sadiq Khan froze Travelcard and pay-as-you-go caps until 2027, with bus and tram fares frozen until July 2026 as emergency cost-of-living measures. Single pay-as-you-go Tube fares within Zones 1-6 will increase by no more than 20p, with many rising 10p. Zone 1 peak fares rise from £2.90 to £3.10, while off-peak fares increase from £2.80 to £3.00. Elizabeth line fares to Heathrow rise from £13.90 to £15.50. The increase represents 1% above inflation rates and was a condition of TfL's £2.2 billion capital funding agreement with central government.
