How many shops in one of Ilford's busiest streets are actually empty?
Briefly

During a visit to Ilford in late May, a report detailed that 10 shop units on High Road were empty or closed. Notable former businesses included Shuropody Foot Clinic and Waterstones, both of which closed recently. Additional closures, like Cemo Restaurant and Valera Chartered Accountants, illustrate ongoing economic challenges in the area. Despite these setbacks, a spokesperson from Redbridge Council described Ilford as a vibrant destination for families and visitors, suggesting a contrast between the perception of vitality and the reality of vacant commercial spaces.
One of these units used to be Shuropody Foot Clinic which, according to an article by the Royal College of Podiatry, went into liquidation in July last year.
Cemo Restaurant was dissolved in 2012 according to Companies House and when I walked past, it was being used to hold stacks of rubbish and old furniture.
At 343 High Road, Valera Chartered Accountants was in High Road since at least 2008, highlighting the longstanding issues affecting this commercial area.
A Redbridge Council spokesperson said: "Ilford is a vibrant destination that attracts local families and visitors, although many shops remain closed or empty."
