Avelo Airlines has discontinued its service between Ontario International Airport and Sonoma County, just six months after inaugurating the route. The last flight occurred on March 31, and the airline cited lower-than-expected demand and financial challenges as primary reasons for this decision, per Communications Manager Courtney Goff. Despite this setback, Avelo will expand its service routes from Sonoma County to other destinations. The airline continues flights from locations such as Burbank, Las Vegas, and Palm Springs, aiming for service to Salt Lake City and Ontario later this fall.
Avelo Airlines decided to suspend its route between Ontario International Airport and Sonoma County due to lower-than-expected demand and financial challenges six months after launch.
The airline's Communications Manager, Courtney Goff, noted that despite the closure, Avelo will continue its flights from other locations to Santa Rosa, including seasonal flights from Palm Springs.
While the closure affects the Ontario service, Avelo aims to operate future routes from Sonoma County to Salt Lake City and Ontario, pending demand.
The company stated, 'We opened the base in hopes of building sustainable demand, but achieving the necessary financial results has proven more elusive than expected.'
