"There might be some one-handed swings. I don't know if he's going to be using his top hand,"
"As far as the throwing, I'm not sure about that. It's kind of a day-to-day thing with that."
"If two days out from the potential activation if he's taking lives (live batting practice) then it's more plausible, right? If he's not then probably not (on Saturday)."
All-Star catcher Will Smith was placed on the injured list retroactive to Sept. 10 after taking a foul ball off his hand on Sept. 3 and is eligible for activation Saturday but timing depends on his rehab progression. Rookie Dalton Rushing hit the injured list with a right shin contusion last week and was recalled on Tuesday. Smith may have some one-handed swings and might not use his top hand; throwing remains day-to-day and activation is contingent on taking live batting practice. Smith continues catching bullpen sessions to keep his body moving. In his last 20 games Smith hit .210 with a .726 OPS. Ben Rortvedt has appeared in 11 games, hitting .286/.375/.357 with a .732 OPS and supplying strong defense and above-average framing.
