"Hurt has had a solid spring as he converts to a full-time reliever. The right-hander began his career as a starting pitcher, but has mostly been used out of the bullpen in his limited MLB experience. Hurt has pitched 7.1 innings in Cactus League play while striking out 12 hitters and walking just two."
"Hurt spent most of the previous two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in July 2024. Hurt made it back on the mound at the end of last season and posted solid results on his rehab assignment. Due to the Dodgers' bullpen issues last year, the club even considered adding him to their postseason roster."
"He was viewed as a potential option to begin the season with the Dodgers, but he was optioned to continue getting more work after throwing so few innings over the last two years. Now 27 years old, Hurt made his MLB debut during the 2023 season."
Kyle Hurt was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City by the Dodgers as they prepare their roster for the 2026 season. The 27-year-old right-hander has transitioned from starting pitcher to full-time reliever and posted strong spring statistics with a 3.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across 7.1 innings with 12 strikeouts and two walks. Hurt spent the previous two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in July 2024 before returning late last season with solid rehab results. Though considered for the postseason roster due to bullpen needs, he was optioned to gain additional innings after limited activity over two years. The Dodgers currently have 42 players on their roster and must reduce to 26 before the season begins.
