Following a series of protests in downtown Los Angeles that resulted in significant damage, Mayor Karen Bass has enacted a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in the area. The curfew restricts access primarily to those who live or work in the area and is a response to rising tensions related to immigration policies. Mayor Bass emphasized the necessity of the curfew to limit disruptive behavior by individuals acting against the immigrant community and warned about strict enforcement against violators.
I am exercising my mayoral powers to implement a curfew within Downtown Los Angeles. If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area.
The curfew is expected to remain in place for several days to curb the actions of 'bad actors who do not support the immigrant community.'
