California's insurance regulator has launched an investigation into State Farm regarding mishandled claims from the January wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Survivors have accused the company of delaying and inadequately addressing claims arising from the destructive Palisades and Eaton fires, which have become some of the costliest disasters in U.S. history. California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara emphasized the need for fair treatment from insurers. State Farm has received 13,000 claims, paying out around $4 billion, but concerns about health risks from potential contamination have been raised by fire survivors as well.
"Californians deserve fair and comprehensive treatment from their insurance companies," said California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara.
State Farm stated, "We're here to help our customers recover and we empathize with those who are rebuilding their lives."
