Lance McCullers Jr. is set to return from the injured list this Sunday, marking his first MLB appearance since the 2022 postseason. After undergoing surgery for a flexor tendon injury and bone spurs in his elbow, McCullers faced a lengthy recovery that extended into the 2025 season. Following successful rehab starts, including several scoreless innings in Triple-A, he expressed excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to pitch again, acknowledging the challenges he faced and the support from his teammates and organization.
"It's a day I've been waiting for a long time," McCullers replied when asked what Sunday's return means to him. "I almost feel like I'm making my debut in some aspects."
Injuries have been a persistent theme throughout the now-31-year-old McCullers' career, but there's never been any doubt of his abilities when he's been healthy enough to pitch.
