Dodgers manager wants to see Blake Treinen gain more confidence
""I think obviously he just wasn't getting miss," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "I don't know if he was being too fine. I thought the stuff started getting a little better that Adames at-bat, but he had count leverage and couldn't put him away. "We need him. It was a perfect opportunity for him to throw up a zero, and we just couldn't get it done. It's baseball. Hopefully after this off day he'll be able to reset and get ready to finish strong.""
""Certainly, the way he's throwing the ball matters," Roberts began. "I've got to trust what I'm seeing and not solely bet on the person or track record. I think we all need to see a couple good outings, but most importantly I want to see confidence out of him. "To be quite honest, I think right now he's not as confident in himself as I am in him. So I think the main thing is we've got to get that confidence back.""
The Dodgers entered the eighth inning with a one-run lead but lost 3-1 after Blake Treinen allowed two singles, a ground-rule RBI double that tied the game, an intentional walk to load the bases, and a bases-loaded walk of Willy Adames that produced the go-ahead run; a third run scored before Treinen escaped. Treinen posted a 1.93 ERA in 46.2 innings last year but owns a 5.55 ERA, 1.85 WHIP and three blown saves in five chances across 24.1 innings this season. The team continues to trust him but needs him to regain confidence with the playoffs about a week away.
