Automattic acquires relationship manager Clay to add an identity layer to online tools | TechCrunch
Briefly

Automattic has expanded its portfolio by acquiring Clay, a relationship-management app, following its previous acquisitions of messaging apps Beeper and Texts.com. Clay, which raised over $9 million in funding, provides users with tools to organize contacts and track updates through integrations with LinkedIn, Facebook, WhatsApp, and more. The app features an AI component called Nexus that facilitates connection by providing insights into the user’s network. The acquisition aims to enhance Automattic’s offerings in relationship management and will see Clay’s team join the company for future product integration.
"Our mission [...] is to help with relationships and increase conscientiousness," Achariam said. "That's always been our North Star, and all the features [...] reinforce that by bringing these different aspects of relationship management into one platform and one tool."
Clay's software, launched in 2021, is something of a smarter address book or personal CRM, letting users organize the people they know and keep up with their latest updates.
With AI integration through Nexus, users can ask questions about their network, making it easier to connect with the right contacts.
Clay's ability to support relationship management and integrate with Automattic’s suite of products positions it as a valuable addition to their portfolio.
