Joe Rogan declined the Golden Globes' $500 submission fee and therefore was not entered for the inaugural podcast nomination. He reported being on a shortlist of top candidates but refused the fee, saying his podcast's sustained number-one status provides sufficient recognition. Amy Poehler's Good Hang won the first Best Podcast award. Bert Kreischer observed that podcasts recognized by the Globes had corporate backing. Bill Maher criticized the Globes for not nominating Rogan, attributing the omission to awards voters living in liberal bubbles and suggesting politics hurt his own Emmy prospects.
