'Weight-loss jab helped me find my cancer'
"The cancer was fastacting, and if I'd left it even six months, the outcome could have been much worse,"
"I stepped on to measure the boots and the skis," she explained, "and I was the same weight as my husband, so I was like: 'Right, I've got to lose the weight'."
""I've just tried to see this as another challenge that's added to our normal life," Rebecca said. "We've just continued with life, hobbies, kids as normal. "I've worked all this time for my business, even through treatment, because that's how we get through.""
Rebecca Combellack began taking the GLP-1 medication Mounjaro in April 2025 and lost more than two stone (12.7kg) in two months. The rapid weight loss revealed a small lump deep in her breast that had previously been harder to detect. Scans and biopsies confirmed oestrogen receptor–positive stage two breast cancer in May 2025. She underwent an operation to remove the lump and started chemotherapy in August 2025. Doctors said her weight loss aided detection and that a six-month delay could have worsened the outcome. She has continued working and maintaining family life during treatment.
