Mental health research has shifted from focusing on isolated critical incidents to recognizing that chronic stressors profoundly alter the nervous system and multiple health markers. Constant media coverage, unpredictability, and violence create stress and trauma that influence life-course health and capacity to contribute. About half of educators who work with immigrant families report students expressing fear or anxiety tied to federal immigration enforcement. Family conversations and safety plans can reduce exposure to trauma and promote joy through outdoor time and exercise.
