Hypermobility spectrum disorder, a form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, leads to chronic pain and hampers daily functioning. The individual also suffers from fibromyalgia, resulting in continuous pain and altered pain signals. Despite being an introvert who enjoys solitude, isolation is linked to health risks, prompting a reevaluation of social habits. A class at the Mayo Clinic introduced the "30-minute rule," which advises attending social events for at least half an hour to mitigate the negative effects of isolation. This approach acknowledges the dire health consequences linked to loneliness.
Social isolation carries the same health risks as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, significantly increasing risks for stroke, heart disease, and mental health disorders.
The 30-minute rule encourages accepting every social invitation and attending for at least half an hour, to combat isolation.
