Dolphins rework Minkah Fitzpatrick's deal to add guarantees, clear cap space
Briefly

Minkah Fitzpatrick and the Miami Dolphins reached a revised contract that guarantees him $16.245 million. The contract adjustment was made to address Fitzpatrick's previous lack of guaranteed money. Although this deal adds more short-term flexibility to the Dolphins' salary cap, it does not extend the contract duration. Fitzpatrick's side is seeking a multi-year extension while he participates fully in training camp, recently showcasing his skills with an interception during practice. The Dolphins also benefitted financially by clearing cap space necessary for signing other players.
Fitzpatrick now has $16.245 million guaranteed from his current deal, as the two sides reached this agreement on the Dolphins' first off day of training camp.
There's still more work Fitzpatrick's side wants done, as years were not added to his contract. He's currently signed through 2026.
The Dolphins cleared $11 million in cap space by converting some of Fitzpatrick's salary to a bonus, facilitating further contracts with veteran players.
Through negotiations, Fitzpatrick has been a full participant in his first four practices back with the Dolphins during training camp.
