Senior citizens to protest in Coral Gables alongside 'No Kings' demonstrations
Briefly

An anti-Trump protest aimed at senior citizens will take place in Coral Gables, led by Judith Rosenbaum, an 84-year-old resident of Belmont Village Senior Living. The protest is set for June 14 to address issues like Medicare, Medicaid, and immigration, with an emphasis on accessibility for seniors. Many participants require assistive devices, but the event encourages participation from younger individuals as well. This mobilization reflects a growing demand for political engagement among older citizens, countering feelings of helplessness regarding their social and political concerns.
"We needed to do something... instead of sitting around at dinner time complaining about what's going on in the country," said Judith Rosenbaum, the 84-year-old Belmont Village resident who organized the event.
"I would say that probably 60% of the people here in Belmont Village use a walker. That makes large protests inaccessible to seniors."
Judith Rosenbaum hopes to give older people like herself a chance to participate despite mobility issues and health complications, rallying the community for vital issues.
The group is focused on similar issues, including Medicare, Medicaid, and immigration, reflecting broader activism goals shared with the No Kings movement.
