'SOS' in the sand saved couple stranded for nearly 24 hours during Oahu floods
""One of the guys in the back said, 'Mark, mark, mark the position - there's an SOS written,'" Coast Guard Lt. Alex Mead recounted. "And he said, 'I think I see some people waving.'""
"Emma Stasko and Logan Bonn, the stranded visitors, had arrived at the beach expecting to leave before the storm intensified, but lost their rental car key."
"Bonn stated, 'The tow truck wasn't able to make it out, and so that was about the point that we knew we were going to be stuck.'"
Two visitors in Hawaii were rescued after writing an SOS in the sand as flash floods swept across Oahu. Heavy rain from a kona low caused significant flooding, prompting evacuations. The Coast Guard and Navy conducted multiple rescues, including five people and a dog from a rooftop. The SOS message was spotted by a Coast Guard helicopter crew, leading them to the stranded visitors who had lost their rental car key and were isolated by rising waters.
