Shortly after 4 p.m., members of the public at Forth Mountain reported a man carrying an axe in an aggressive state in the Carrigfoyle car park. The man caused damage to four cars and prompted panicked calls and warnings from walkers who flagged down motorists. Local GardaĆ­ responded immediately and were reinforced by the Armed Support Unit to search the area. The suspect, a man in his 50s, was located and arrested at a residential property in nearby Taghmon. A less-than-lethal force option was used during the arrest, and he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
