Joe Mazraani, a shipwreck explorer and co-owner of Atlantic Wreck Salvage, died at 47 during a dive 200 miles offshore. His death occurred on July 29 while exploring 'The Big Engine Steamer'. The cause has not been disclosed, but there is no suspicion of diver error or equipment failure. Mazraani, who immigrated from Lebanon at 15, was a certified diver who became passionate about exploring shipwrecks. His wife, attorney Jennifer Sellitti, was on the boat during the incident. He was remembered as kind, demanding excellence, and a significant presence in both diving and law.
"Joe Mazraani was larger than life. He was kind, compassionate, and generous. A mentor and a student, a friend, brother, son, and partner."
"Whether motoring aboard D/V Tenacious, diving into deep and dangerous water, or defending his clients in court, Joe demanded the best of everyone around him."
