"Emergency services were scrambled after receiving reports of that a child was in the river at Newbridge, also known as Loreto Bridge, following a crash this afternoon. However, these reports turned out to be a false alarm. A Coast Guard helicopter, Meath River Rescue boats, gardaí, fire brigade and other emergency services were deployed in response to the incident, with surrounding roads also closed as a result."
"Gardaí confirmed that a report was made that someone had possibly entered the water, but following enquiries they said the search was stood down. In a statement, Meath River Rescue said it had "received a call from a member of the gardaí at 2:48pm of a person may have entered water after a short search was stood down as a false alarm.""
A second collision occurred on the R147 Dublin Road in Navan around 7pm between two vehicles. Emergency services, including the fire brigade and gardaĆ, attended the scene and traffic diversions were put in place. Earlier, a major search and rescue operation took place in central Navan after reports that a child had entered the river at Newbridge (Loreto Bridge) following a crash. The reports were subsequently found to be false and the search was stood down after several hours. A Coast Guard helicopter, Meath River Rescue boats and other emergency services were deployed and surrounding roads were closed. A minor four-car crash on the bridge caused no injuries and one car was towed.
