'He Came Out of Me?' Mom Delivers Record-Breaking Baby That Stuns Maternity Ward
"He was the talk of the maternity ward!"
"I remember thinking, 'What are they pulling out of me?' What is going on here?' I felt so much pressure,"
"He was so big. I was like, 'Whose baby is this? He came out of me?'"
"Then everybody starts coming in because it's not every day you see an almost 14 pound baby pop out. He was like a little celebrity."
Daniella Hines, 40, delivered son Annan on Sept. 3 at BayCare's St. Joseph Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida. Annan weighed 13 pounds, 15 ounces at birth, nearly twice the size of a typical newborn, and is believed to be the largest baby ever delivered at that hospital. Both parents are tall (mother 6 feet, father about 6'2"), and genetics are suspected contributors. Hines had gestational diabetes but maintained strictly controlled glucose levels. Delivery was by C-section and felt unusually forceful; a previous son weighed 12 pounds, 11 ounces. Annan is described as calm except when hungry.
