India's flood rescue efforts hampered by landslides, blocked roads
Briefly

Flash floods and landslides in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, resulted in at least four deaths and dozens missing, including eight soldiers. Intense monsoon rains triggered the flooding, which engulfed the village of Dharali in muddy water and debris. Rescue efforts are hindered by heavy rain, communication disruptions, and blocked roads. The Indian army has deployed resources to locate about 50 missing individuals, utilizing drones and tracker dogs. Many areas are submerged under 15 meters of mud, covering buildings. Mobile and electricity infrastructure was destroyed, prompting the use of satellite phones for rescue operations.
Among the missing are at least eight soldiers from a nearby army base, as rescue efforts continue after at least four people were killed.
The flooding, triggered by intense monsoon rains, engulfed the village, covering areas up to 15 metres deep, enough to bury entire buildings.
The Indian army is leading search efforts for approximately 50 people unaccounted for, using additional military resources including drones and tracker dogs.
