Kate O'Connor off to flying start in World Championships heptathlon with personal best in 100m hurdles and high jump
"I'm happy with everything."
"It's trying to hold my form as long as we can and I'm looking forward to getting out and getting started. I've had the year from dreams. This competition is just like a bonus. Let's go out and see what I can do."
Kate O'Connor opened the heptathlon at the World Championships in Tokyo with a lifetime best of 13.44 in the 100m hurdles, finishing third in her heat. That time improved her previous best of 13.57 and exceeded her July opening time of 13.89 by a significant margin. The 13.44 start puts her well ahead of her previous one-event tally. O'Connor followed the hurdles by clearing a high jump personal best of 1.86m. The shot put and 200m remain later today, with the final three heptathlon events scheduled for tomorrow. O'Connor earned three international medals earlier this year.
