"The scene of the fatal incident is currently closed off as Gardaí carry out a technical examination. The fatal collision took place on the northbound stretch of the motorway at Carrigane, Mitchelstown, at around 9.15pm between junction 11 and junction 12. The body of the man, whom gardaí described as a pedestrian, was taken to the mortuary in Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was not injured."

The pedestrian's body was taken to Cork University Hospital for post-mortem examination. The car driver, a man in his 20s, was uninjured. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for road users with camera or dash-cam footage to make it available and ask anyone with information to contact Fermoy Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda station. Separately, four people were seriously injured when a car left the M9 southbound at Stonecarty, Knocktopher and were taken to Waterford University Hospital; Gardaí seek witnesses and footage for that collision as well.
