"The sports organizations should consider whether it's ethical for Israel to keep participating in international competitions. Why expel Russia after the invasion of Ukraine and not expel Israel after the invasion of Gaza?"
"Until the barbarity ends, neither Russia nor Israel should be in any international competition."
Pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted the final stage of the Vuelta cycling race in Madrid by throwing barriers onto the road and clashing with police near the finish line, forcing the stage to be cut short. More than 100,000 people reportedly took part in the demonstration; two people were detained and 22 were injured, none seriously. Protesters opposed the participation of the Israel Premier Tech team; the team removed its name from uniforms but completed the race. Spain's government expressed sympathy with the protesters and suggested the team should have withdrawn. Calls urged banning Israel from international sports, likening the Gaza campaign to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Jonas Vingegaard was confirmed as the overall race winner.
