The 'Migrant Child' mural by Banksy in Venice has been cut from the palazzo’s façade due to fading caused by neglect and the weather. This mural, depicting a child with a flare, has become a significant tourist attraction but has deteriorated by about one third over six years. The innovative rescue, funded by Banca Ifis, involved detachments and restorations carried out by specialists. Restoration includes analyzing and addressing damaged parts while preserving the remaining work, with specific sections not intended for complete reconstruction due to severe degradation.
The mural, 'Migrant Child', on a 17th-century palazzo in Venice, has been partially preserved after a unique rescue operation to restore its fading state.
Restorers cut out the section of wall with the mural, cleaned and stabilised it, and detached the slab for restoration following innovative techniques financed by Banca Ifis.
