Day 90 at the 16th St. plaza: Drug use returns to SF's Mission St.
Briefly

The situation on Mission Street drastically worsened from Saturday to Sunday, with unpermitted vendors taking over and increasing drug activity becoming prevalent. By evening, drug paraphernalia was found alongside vendor items like toothpaste and electronics. Local officers indicated uncertainty about their support team's return, illustrating the difficulties in maintaining cleanliness in the area. This daily reporting aims to monitor ongoing city efforts under Mayor Lurie's initiative to improve the safety and sanitation of San Francisco's streets and highlight community challenges.
At noon Sunday, unpermitted vendors flooded the west side blocks of Mission Street. By 6 p.m some of the vendors remained, but pipes and other drug paraphernalia were nearly as common as the toothpaste, electronics and the shoes for sale.
There's a lot of misery on the street - few of the denizens look like they were having much fun.
We do these daily posts because Mayor Daniel Lurie has made the 16th Street transit corridor a focus of his effort to keep San Francisco's streets clean and safe.
The officers who worked on Saturday with the Department of Public Works said they were 'sent from downtown.' They did not know if the teams would return.
