Johanna Christine Luddy, affectionately known as Jojo, was a cherished co-owner of Ruth's on Treat Street, San Francisco. She passed away on June 1 after battling cancer. Jojo was remembered for her infectious laughter and her ability to make everyone feel special and loved. A long-time resident of the Mission District, she fought against gentrification by fostering community and culture. Celebrating her life at Ruth's, friends recall her warmth and the profound impact she had on their lives, creating spaces of inclusivity and joy for all.
"She had a warmth about her. She listened deeply, made sure everyone felt comfortable, and always looked for the good in people."
"She loved the Mission because it was full of real, working people from all walks of life," said her mother, Kathryn Dresslar.
"Her presence could light up any room, and she left behind a legacy of kindness, joy, and deep community connection."
"Whether you were a lifelong friend or a passing acquaintance, Jojo made you feel special - truly acknowledged."
