Antonio Carlos Jr. and Bo Nickal, training partners at American Top Team, are utilizing their close fight schedules to enhance each other's performance in sparring sessions. Carlos Jr., a jiu-jitsu world champion, will compete against Karl Moore at the PFL World Tournament while Nickal faces Reinier de Ridder at UFC Des Moines. Carlos Jr. praised Nickal's striking and jiu-jitsu, noting his unique wrestling background enhances his MMA capabilities. Despite de Ridder's solid submission skills, Carlos Jr. believes Nickal's well-roundedness will give him an edge. Carlos Jr. is recovering from knee surgeries and aims to be at his best for the tournament.
Nickal has been improving a lot in terms of striking and, to be honest, his jiu-jitsu surprised me a lot. He brought a body awareness from wrestling that is very important to MMA.
If you analyze the technical aspects of the Dutchman, he may even have better sport jiu-jitsu than Bo, but I think Bo is much more complete and does this mix much better.
