"Previously part of Jim Irsay's collection, the instrument's new owner is Bobby Tseitlin of Family Guitars, who says it will remain part of a 'living collection' and 'continue to be played, heard, and experienced the way [it was] meant to be.'"
"Making good on that promise, Garcia's 'Tiger' was put to use by Derek Trucks during a Tedeschi Trucks Band concert at the Beacon Theatre on Friday night. Trucks played the instrument on several songs, including Blind Willie McTell's 'Statesboro Blues,' Frank Zappa's 'Willie the Pimp,' John Prine's 'Angel From Montgomery,' and Garcia's own 'Sugaree.'"
Jerry Garcia's legendary 'Tiger' guitar sold at Christie's auction for $11.5 million to Bobby Tseitlin of Family Guitars. The new owner committed to keeping the instrument as part of a 'living collection' where it would continue to be played and experienced as intended. Within days of the purchase, Derek Trucks of Tedeschi Trucks Band performed with the guitar at the Beacon Theatre, playing it on multiple songs including 'Statesboro Blues,' 'Willie the Pimp,' 'Angel From Montgomery,' and Garcia's 'Sugaree.' The same auction also featured David Gilmour's 'Black Strat,' which sold for a record $14.5 million.
