"I had a middle school principal who, every Friday, would tell me to go when I would get to school. I was in eighth grade and I would leave school and ride the train alone from 8 A.M. until 2:30 P.M. Pictures takes its inspiration from the many hours Green spent riding Atlanta's MARTA public transit system as a kid."
"Although Green and Danger Mouse haven't dropped a Gnarls Barkley record since 2008's The Odd Couple, both have released music solo. Green shared his sixth studio album, CeeLo Green is Thomas Calloway, in 2020; it followed 2015's Heart Blanche and 2012's CeeLo's Magic Moment."
"Danger Mouse, meanwhile, has spent the past near-decade rolling out collaborative albums with artists including Sparklehorse, Daniele Luppi, and Karen O. Most recently, he shared the record Cheat Codes with Black Thought in 2022; he and MorMor also linked up for a song, 'Wonder,' in 2025."
Gnarls Barkley, the collaborative project of CeeLo Green and Danger Mouse, has released a new album titled Atlanta on March 6 through 10k Projects. The lead single 'Pictures' marks their first studio release together since 2008's The Odd Couple. The song draws inspiration from Green's childhood memories of riding Atlanta's MARTA public transit system, where a middle school principal would send him away on Fridays, leading him to spend hours alone on the train. During their 18-year hiatus, both artists pursued solo careers and collaborations with various musicians, including Green's work on The Voice and Danger Mouse's projects with artists like Black Thought and Karen O.
