Gorillaz Unveil Animated Short Film to Accompany New Album The Mountain: Watch
"The eight-minute visual spectacle, directed by Hewlett, follows Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs, 2D and Noodle taking a psychedelic journey through India. The whole thing is soundtracked by The Mountain cuts "The Mountain," "The Moon Cave," and "The Sad God." Just like the record, it's ambitious, existential, and wildly creative."
"Additional direction and animation for the short film also came by way of Max Taylor and Tim McCourt of BAFTA-nominated London-based animation studio THE LINE. The creative team aimed to "reinterpret Gorillaz through the timeless aesthetic of 1960s animated features," according to the press release."
Gorillaz unveiled their album The Mountain with an accompanying animated short film directed by Jamie Hewlett. The eight-minute visual features the band's characters—Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs, 2D, and Noodle—embarking on a psychedelic journey through India, soundtracked by album cuts including "The Mountain," "The Moon Cave," and "The Sad God." Additional direction and animation came from Max Taylor and Tim McCourt of London-based studio THE LINE. The creative team reinterpreted Gorillaz through the aesthetic of 1960s animated features. The band performed at the Hollywood Palladium and has scheduled European tour dates, festival appearances at Primavera Sound and Shaky Knees, and their SNL debut on March 7th.
